Recent Beauty Additions & Reviews

Another girly post... I don't know about you, but sometimes I like reading beauty blogs, watching makeup tutorials and other videos on YouTube, and checking out what makeup other people are using. I'm not personally great at using makeup yet, but my use has definitely changed dramatically over the past year or two. I've been kind of awkwardly excited to post these photos because rather than just looking at other people post photos of the makeup they use, it's my turn to do the posting!

I realized that within the past six months, I've accumulated a decent amount of beauty items (mostly gifts) and I thought it'd be cool to share and a little fun for all my girly readers to read :)
I was so happy to get so many new nail polishes as gifts!! Essie nail polishes are nice as usual. Haven't gotten to try the blacks yet. Disco Ball by Sally Hansen is great as a top layer on other nail polishes and the CND Speedey Top Coat dries pretty fast but it doesn't necessarily prevent my nail polish from chipping and doesn't seem to last that long.

I know this photo has a lot of products but keep scrolling for more product details!
  • Estée Lauder Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner Sample in Purple
  • Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear in Dark Brown, Black, Navy, and Silver (not pictured) - I've used the Brown almost to the end and they're definitely very smooth and creamy when applying which I love and last a decent amount of time. However, by the end of the work day, it's not a defined line anymore (but at least it doesn't give me raccoon eyes!)
  • EM (by Michelle Phan) Waterliner / Intense Color Eye Liner - Great as a waterliner. Smudges as eyeliner and gives me raccoon eyes. Easy, smooth application though and I like the smudge tip, which I actually use more for other eyeliners.
  • Eyelashes from Daiso, Cross Type and Straight Type - Haven't really tried these out but I noticed the band is a little thick.
  • Ardell Natural Eyelashes - Love the band on these but haven't really worn these either.
  • Pixi Eye Alchemy Eye Shadow Palette - My mom got this for free and gave it to me and I love it. I love how just about all of these colors can be used to create natural-looking looks. They're basically all shimmery but I just love this palette. I love how there is army green and dark purples and grays along with great highlight colors.
  • Sonia Kashuk Eye Couture Eye Palette - Love this palette even though I haven't used it much yet. These are all matte, all neutral colors. Great to go along with shimmery palettes like the Pixi palette to make looks more bold. These shadows are very pigmented and can be used for everyday and smokey eye looks.
  • Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof (haven't tried it yet but excited to!)
  • Maybelline The Falsies - I was really excited to try this out because I asked for this product in waterproof but I opened the package before I realized it actually wasn't the waterproof version. Nevertheless, I've heard "The Falsies" mentioned a lot so I was still excited to use it. However, it's not as amazing as I thought it would be. Maybe I got a faulty product, but the tube doesn't squeeze out enough of the mascara so the applicator is pretty clumpy with product when I use it and it just doesn't go on very nicely. And with it not being waterproof, it doesn't really hold the lashes curled.

  • Maybelline Color Sensational Pearls in Pearly Pink - Definitely not what I was looking for but it was on sale for less than $2 so I just got it. I guess if I want to look like a snow queen, I have the lipstick for it haha.
  • Estée Lauder All Day Lipstick in Spiced Cider - The swatch is a lot better looking than the lipstick itself but I have yet to wear it out. It doesn't look bad though so it's worth a shot!
  • Estée Lauder Pure Color Long-Lasting Lipstick in Rubellite - Very hot pink shimmer. Looks perfect for a girls night out or date night or clubbing night. Excited to use this one!
  • Estée Lauder Pure Color Long-Lasting Lipstick in Bois de Rose - Pretty dark rose color. Not sure how this actually looks on me though but it's still a great color!
  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Nude - It's a decent concealer. Picked the right shade and put it on under my foundation if I really feel like covering up more. I'm not sure if it necessarily holds up all day because it could be my fault for touching my face throughout the day -_-
  • Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm - I probably got like 3 or 4 of these for Christmas but I don't mind because it's my favorite everyday lip balm right now. I love the minty taste and it just feels refreshing with every application.
  • bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil - This is the only powder I've used ever because I started my foundation experience with a bareEscentuals starter kit and have never tried another powder since. So I asked for this one. My starter kit came with a matte mineral veil but I accidentally asked for the illumunating one with shimmer. But I don't mind. It probably gives my face a little glow everyday, which I don't mind :) But I'm definitely open to trying other, cheaper, maybe drugstore powder products next.
That concludes my little beauty show-and-tell. If you want to know a little more about any of these products, leave a comment below (i.e. if you want to see swatches of the lipsticks on me). If you have any of these products, feel free to leave a comment on what you think or what products you use! If you like reading these types of posts, I'm going to have another "Makeup Haul from Grandma's" up soon so stay tuned! :)

Weekly Faith: Week 11 & 12

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm posting late but I figured I'd combine last week and this week's posts so it's gonna be a bit long. I have a great sermon and some images I saw on Pinterest to share.

I was very happy when one of my good friends, Carissa, shared a sermon with me from her church, RealityLA (it's related to the RealitySF you've been seeing me blog about). It's called The Healing of Ambition (find the video here). It's a long sermon but I've typed up all the points that I felt were really important or hit me personally so if you don't have time to actually listen to the sermon online, feel free to read through my notes instead and take it in that way. I would recommend that after reading my notes, really think hard about what the notes say, try to apply it to your own life or personal situation, and just spend some time praying to God about what it means for you or what changes you should make to your life.

My Notes:

  • We aspire to be more than what we are.
  • What is your desire and are you filling to bring it to God?
  • Your ambitions shape the type of person you become in the future.
  • What do you want? If Jesus were to grant you today anything request, what would it be? And if you were to get everything you wanted--imagine if all your requests were granted and you get everything you're looking for--what is the outcome? What is the win for you if you get that?
  • The end tends to get lost in the means. We tend to lose sight of the goal. We tend to focus on the wrong things.
  • The problem with our ambition is not that it's too big but that it's too small. Any ambition that doesn't take into account God and His kingdom is not too big; it's too small. Your ambition is never meant to end with you.
  • Selfish ambition brings rivalry. If everyone's on Team Me, then no one's on Team You. And this spreads like a disease where everyone just tries fight for position. Selfish ambition is driven by the fear of being left out or the fear you and your influence won't last and that we'll be insignificant.
  • Our ambition needs correction and conversion.
  • Ambition goes wrong when people become your platform and influence becomes your identity.
  • Jesus does not convert to our desires. He converts us to His desires. We are not supposed to conform to how others live, but to how God wants us to live.
  • He does not say power, position, and privilege are bad. He just wants us to think of them in a radically different way. Stop thinking like rulers, and start thinking like servants.
  • Wherever you are (whether it be LA, SF, anywhere) does not need manipulative rulers. Wherever you are needs Christ-like servants.
  • If you're about service, then you'll show love toward other people.
  • How are you using your position in society? Are you using it to live above others or live on their behalf?
  • What if the people you work with found out you were a follower of Jesus? What if your coworkers asked: "What can we expect about your work? How will your work be different because of your faith?"
  • What gifts has God given you?
  • We shouldn't use people to build up our gifts. We should use our gifts to build up people. That's what they're for and that's why they exist. We go from loving privilege to loving people through privilege.
  • Serving doesn't necessarily mean doing more. It means doing things differently.
  • The feeling you get when you give gifts is a little hint of what we should be doing through serving with joy.
  • Sometimes we can't use the gifts God has given us and it makes us impatient to wait to use them. But in reality, God is bringing life because He is teaching us to trust in who we are in Christ, not the things we do for Christ. Even though our gifts are good, these are moments where God is refining us.
  • Godly ambition causes you to move in where others keep their distance. Godly ambition means you speak the truth when others won't.
  • The degree to which you esteem the praises of people is the same degree by which you will be destroyed by their criticism. If you live for applause or approval by the crowd, you will die by their criticism. But Jesus is saying He can provide a new way. It's not by being arrogant, but through compassion and humility. You can be undeterred by the crowd because you focus on the people in need because you can be moved to love even when the crowd is not on your side. That's what Jesus did. He did not allow the crowd to dictate his agenda.
  • The world says look out for yourself. Jesus says look out for others. The world says get all you can. Jesus says give all you can.The world says live above all the rest. Jesus says live on their behalf. The world says reach for the stars. Jesus says reach for your neighbor.
  • Pray that God gives you love because when you have love, you'll become a servant.

Inspiring Images

I hope that the sermon and these images are just as powerful to you as they are to me. It takes time to soak in and feel free to listen to the sermon over and over again. This sermon is so packed with great stuff and I would love to hear what you think of it. Let me know in the comments below! And definitely feel free to share any sermons that really affected you or that you've really enjoyed because I would love to listen to them :)

Have an amazing week everyone and for those of you who are on spring break, make the most of it!!

Weekly Faith: Week 10

This week's post is a really simple one, but it consists of three different thoughts. I heard these tips this week on KLOVE, the Christian radio station I usually listen to in the car, and I thought they were really powerful.

1. Dealing with Frustration or Bad Days
We've all had those days where something goes wrong, something gets frustrating, or you've just really had a bad day. But Lysa TerKeurst from Proverbs 31 Ministries says to tell yourself this: "If this is the worst thing that happens to me today, it's still a pretty good day." We often think that something can ruin the rest of our day or could make it feel like the end of the world, but most of the time, the situation isn't really that big of a deal. If we think more positively, we can still tell ourselves that our day is still pretty good.

2. Showing our Emotions
Many of us have those times where we feel like being mean to someone. In our hearts, we may feel hate or dislike toward another person. But Lysa TerKeurst from Proverbs 31 Ministries says that emotions are indicators of how our hearts feel. However, we should not let our emotions dictate our actions toward others or dictate our life even. We should try to act with love and respect even if our hearts don't want to. Emotions are indicators, not dictators.

3. Getting through Single Life
People nowadays are rushing into relationships, marriages, and compromising their values all because they're hitting a certain age and want to settle down. But this isn't right because God has a plan for you and you shouldn't compromise just because your biological clock is ticking, for example. Instead, single life should be used for molding yourself into the person you want to be. Rather than looking for someone you'd want to marry, first become someone you'd want to marry. Use this time wisely to grow and become a person you think is suitable and desirable for your future husband/wife.

I hope at least one of these 3 lessons can help you in some way, wherever you are in life. I think these are great lessons to live by and hope that even if you don't plan on changing yourself or how you act right away, that you recognize that these may be areas you may want to work on in the future to become a better person and follower of Christ.

Dollar Tree Makeup Haul, Swatches, & Review

A few weeks ago, I decided to try some makeup from Dollar Tree. As you can see, I purchased some makeup wedges, an eyeliner, and two lipsticks. Although the quality might not be that good, I figured it's worth a shot for $1 each.

Here are some photos on all the products, except for the cosmetic wedges.
Hope you enjoy seeing swatches of everything! The lipstick colors are nice and have a little shimmer. I really like the Luscious Wine color but I haven't tried wearing it out or anything. The eyeliner feels more like crayon than pencil so I'll have to try it out. The cosmetic wedges are pretty much anything you'd expect but I'm using it to replace the round foundation sponge that my Estee Lauder pressed foundation came with and I noticed the foundation doesn't stay on as well with the wedges. But oh well, they were just $1.

Let me know if you want any reviews on any of these products before you try them out yourself, but if you want to try them yourself right away, I hope the swatches alone help!

Edit - Reviews
  • Eyeliner - PASS. It's more of a crayon rather than a pencil consistency. And it smudges throughout the day!
  • Lipstick - MAYBE WORTH A TRY. It claims to have Vitamin E and Aloe Vera which feels a little moisturizing. I like the Luscious Wine color a lot. I think it's definitely worth $1 since I don't have a brighter/deeper red/pink color like this yet so this is a good start to bolder lipstick colors. The Sorbet color is a personal choice. I don't know if I like the shimmery nude color but it's not bad. The only thing about it is it doesn't seem long-lasting. If you gloss over your lips with your finger, color will come off. Also I noticed when I went to wash it off, it spread past my lip line so I looked a little clown-ish. Maybe need to use some lip liner with it or something? So you can make the call when it comes to that.
Hope this helps you decide whether to spend the couple bucks! :)

Girls Dinner Date OOTD / OOTN

This is so overdue, but two Fridays ago, I went out with two of my girlfriends to have dinner and dessert. I wanted to do an OOTD post just for fun because I wanted to show off our different styles. There's a group of five of us who have stuck together since sophomore year of high school and we're still really close. One thing I love about us is our different tastes in fashion. Although two are out of town, here are three of us showing off our casual looks. I can't wait to do an OOTD post when we're all together again.

P.S. Please ignore the background. We had planned to do night shots but without a tripod at night in the cold, it was just too difficult and decided to just take photos inside. Next time hopefully I'll shoot during the day or find a better spot for night shots.
